Persuasive Thing

I found a poster against athletes using steroids. The audience was all athletes. with a purpose of trying to convince them not to do steroids. The poster had both text and visual aspects in order to lure in a larger crowd of people that would pay attention to it. The pictures were bright and attention grabbing, while the text was informative. This makes the poster both peripheral and direct pathways of informing. It used mostly logos, giving facts and stats as to why steroids are bad. For it to have ethos, it would have needed added credibility which it did not use. For it to use pathos it would have needed an emotional aspect, which it also lacked. This is probably because steroids don't necessarily make you look bad, so they couldn't add pictures of what you would look like if you used them. It did, however, use some humor to keep the audience entertained. For example, it used a Ghostbusters reference. There were also subliminal cues at work. The background of the poster was made up of words that described negative outcomes after using steroids that the audience would not really SEE unless they were looking for it. The media of the advertisement, while it was a poster, was web based because I found the poster online. If I had seen it in person, it would have had a different media though. I was drawn to this poster while searching through the internet for a persuasive piece because of all the bright chaotic colors everywhere all over it. All the graphics and information are sprawled randomly across the poster, which makes it stand out from others. If I had created this poster and were trying to get the information to my audience, I would put the poster in athletic facilities and on websites where athletes often visit instead of just throwing it out for the world to see.
